Feb. 1961: the Rohingya appealed to the central gov. of Burma led by PM U Nu to be governed directly from Rangoon. Mujahideens didn’t represent the majority of the Rohingya people. The people didn’t want an independent Muslin state, nor did not want to be included in Rakhine state. On July 4, 1961, 290 Mujahideens surrendered and Gen. Ne Win’s ministry of Defence proceeded to implement a separate Rohingya Administration under Mayu District banner. Lt Colonel Ye Khaung was made in charge. The ground work for this was laid by Lt-Colonel Tin Oo (now NLD Vice Chair Tin Oo, who is not being honest and truthful about what he knew – that the Rohingya were recognised as both an ethnic group of Burma and full citizens).
